Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States when men were free.

From Arlington to Across America

Wreaths Across America, a non profit 501-c3 organization, was formed as an extension of the Arlington Wreath Project.  The Arlington Wreath program was started by Morrill Worcester and the Worcester Wreath Company in 1992 with the donation and laying of 5,000 Christmas wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery. This became an annual journey for Mr. Worcester. 

The Arlington Wreath Project remained relatively obscure until 2005, when a photo of the stones adorned with wreaths and covered in snow circulated around the internet. The project received National attention. Thousands of requests poured in from all over the country from people wanting to emulate the Arlington project at their National and State cemeteries. This spurred the creation of “Wreaths Across America”.  Unable to donate thousands of wreaths to each state, Mr. Worcester conceived the idea of sending seven wreaths (one for each branch of the military as well as on for all POW/MIA). In 2006, with the help of the Civil Air Patrol and other civic organizations, over 150 locations held wreath laying ceremonies all across the United States simultaneously.

During 2007, the requests for wreaths continued to grow. The Worcester family established the non-profit Wreaths Across America to further promote Veterans remembrance. The mission is simple - Remember the Fallen, Honor those who serve; and Teach our children the value of freedom.

By 2008 over 300 locations held wreath laying ceremonies in every state, Puerto Rico and in 24 overseas cemeteries. Over 100,000 wreaths were placed on veterans graves with over 60,000 volunteers participating.

In 2010, Wreaths Across America and our national network of volunteers laid over 220,000 memorial wreaths at 545 locations in the United States and beyond.

The wreath laying is now held annually on a the second or third Saturday of December. The Patriot Guard Riders serve as escorts for the wreaths heading to Arlington as part of the annual “Veterans Honor Parade” in early December. Wreaths Across America would not be successful without the help of the volunteers, the Civil Air Patrol, many other civic organizations, and the generosity of the trucking industry.
