HISTORY

HistoryCivil Air Patrol has a long and rich history of service to our communities, states, and nation. Across the United States, members have been serving others through the Civil Air Patrol since 1941. Within the greater Miami Valley our members have been performing Civil Air Patrol's "Missions for America" since 1993.

Through the years the Civil Air Patrol has taken on a number of roles in support of our country and it's citizens. No matter what the task, from coastal patrol to urban search and rescue, the Civil Air Patrol provides a dedicated group of volunteers committed to performing their assignment with urgency, efficiency, and safety.

Understanding the history of our organization serves two purposes. First, we study history to appreciate the challenges of the past and the ways in which they were addressed. It prevents us from repeating history or attempting to fix problems in ways proven not to work in the past. Second, appreciating our history gives us a sense of community and an appreciation for the family that is the Civil Air Patrol. Thousands of members have gone before us creating an organization that is robust and growing today.
