Maj Mitchell

 

Major Mitchell joined the Civil Air Patrol in 1988 as an Officer of the Middletown Composite Squadron 111 in Middletown, Ohio where he served as Communications Officer and Public Affairs Officer.  In 1993, Maj Mitchell transferred to the Wright Brothers 282nd Aero Composite Squadron in New Lebanon, Ohio which was a little over a year old at the time and was known as Squadron 705 at the time.  Maj Mitchell served as Deputy Squadron Commander for many years in the unit under command of Maj Scott Spurling, and Operations Officer under command of Maj Chris Vecchi.  In June 2009, Maj Mitchell transferred to Group VII Headquarters to assume the role of Deputy Group Commander under command of Lt Col Ken Curell.  In October 2010, Maj Mitchell returned to 282nd to assume the role of Squadron Commander.  Maj Mitchell has worked in the Computer Security field for over 18 years, is an Eagle Scout, and holds an Extra Class Amateur Radio license issued by the FCC. In Civil Air Patrol, Maj Mitchell holds a Master Rating in Communications, a Senior Rating in Cadet Programs, and is heavily involved in Emergency Services as an Incident Commander and Private Pilot.

As a senior officer in Civil Air Patrol, Maj Mitchell:
- Achieved qualification as a FAA private pilot and a rated CAP Pilot.
- Achieved qualification as an Incident Commander, Ground Team Leader, and Mission Transport Pilot
- Achieved Level IV, Paul E Garber Award, in the CAP Professional Development program for Officers
- Completed Advanced Ranger and Search and Rescue Team Commander proficiency grades at Hawk Mountain Ranger Search and Rescue School
- Completed the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center (AFRCC) Search and Rescue Management Course and AFRCC Inland Search and Rescue School
- Served on the staff of several Squadron Leadership Schools instructing new CAP Officers
- Served on the staff of several Civil Air Patrol Encampments
- Served as part of the Emergency Services Staff at Blue Beret National Activity for two years
